Dell Studio One 19 – Low Cost Versions Are Better

January 4, 2011 – 6:41 amNo Comment

Dell’s built-to-order desktops have always captured our attention, and we have to say that we always have loved reviewing these systems. The Dell Studio One 19 is yet another offering from dell, and here we are reviewing its top configuration unit. Now considering the price of the top unit of the One 19 (our review unit was priced at $1,024), we’ve to say that the system goes close to Sony’s Vaio JS250J and Apple’s 20-inch iMac in terms of price. But with the price closer to those systems we had really high expectations from the Dell Studio One 19, but it didn’t delivered what was expected. As a matter of fact those systems have better feature set, and even bigger screens.

Putting everything aside, lets talk about the chassis of the Studio One 19, and we’ve to say that it definitely deserves a mention here. The Dell Studio One 19 flaunts a lot more streamlined and stripped down chassis of Dell’s expensive XPS One. The system now has a gradually curved rear panel, and doesn’t have all those dramatic angels and touch-capacitive external lightening. In addition to a curved rear end the system also comes with a fabric wrapper, which offers backdrop for its 18.5 inch wide-screen LCD. You can pick four colors of the fabric: dark red, dark blue, Pink and charcoal. Like all the other all-in-one’s, this system also only lets you adjust the tilt of the screen only.

Technical Information:

Price: $1,024

Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (64-bit)

CPU: 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duos E5200

Display size: 18.5-inches

Graphics: 256MB (shared) Nvidia GeForce 9400M integrated graphics chip

Memory: 4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Optical drive: Dual-layer DVD burner

Hard drives: 320GB @7,200rpm

Networking: Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11 b/g wireless

Though, most of the all-in-one systems are slow and this Dell Studio One 19 is no exception. This is the reason why we won’t recommend the high-end configuration of this system. The lack of features plays significant role in slowing down the system, and the 2.5GHz dual-core Intel chip that we had in our high end configuration, was the same chip that powered the low end versions of the Studio One 19.

Dell offers almost the same support and service for their Dell Studio One 19, which all the all-one-ones in the market get. The One 10 gets powered by 1 year part-and-labor coverage as standard service and in addition gets one year of onsite service. Dell also offers one year of 24×7 toll-free telephonic supports, there also is plenty of resource available on Dell’s website.
